National Anti-Terrorism Day
celebrated on 21 May
 Anti-Terrorism Day has been
celebrated across the country on 21
May. The day marks the death
anniversary of the country's sixth
former Prime Minister Rajiv
Gandhi, who was assassinated by a
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
(LTTE) suicide bomber on May 21,
1991, in Sriperumbudur, a village
near Chennai.
 Anti-Terrorism Day in India is
observed every year to
commemorate the assassination of
former Prime Minister Rajiv
Gandhi, commemorating the
country's unwavering resolve to
combat the scourge of terrorism
and promote peace, unity and
security within its borders and
globally.
 Rajiv Gandhi assumed the office of
Prime Minister after the
assassination of his mother Indira
Gandhi on October 31, 1984, and
served from 1984 to 1989. He
became the youngest PM of India.
 To restore peace in Sri Lanka,
Gandhi deployed the Indian Peace
Keeping Force in 1987. This action
strained relations with India. Anti-
Terrorism Day in India was
established by the VP Singh
government in the memory of Rajiv
Gandhi.
 21 May – International Tea Day 2024
 On 21 May 2024, tea lovers and
supporters around the world
celebrated International Tea Day.
This annual festival honors the rich
cultural heritage, economic
importance and environmental
impact of the tea leaves.
 Launched in 2005, International Tea
Day was proposed by Chairperson
Santosh Kumar Sarangi, supported
by countries such as Canada, the
United States, the European Union,
Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Kenya and
Malawi.
 Tea, the most consumed beverage
in the world after water, has a long
and rich history, with its
consumption in China dating back
5,000 years. The first International
Tea Day was celebrated in New
Delhi in 2005, with later
celebrations being held in Sri Lanka
in 2006 and 2008.
