Indian Air Force is celebrating its 90th Raising Day on 08 October 2022. The Indian Air Force was officially established on October 8, 1932 and the first flight of the Air Force was carried out on April 01, 1933. Initially the Indian Air Force was known as 'Royal Indian Air Force'.

After the year 1950, when India was established as a republic, the word 'Royal' was dropped.

Presently the 'Indian Air Force' is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces and is the fourth largest air force in the world. The purpose of organizing this day is to raise awareness about the importance of the Indian Air Force in national security, both officially and publicly.

Significantly, the 'Indian Air Force' (IAF) is responsible for securing Indian airspace as well as participating in aerial warfare during conflict, thus the Indian Air Force along with Indian Navy and Army is a fundamental and important part of country's defense system.
