Wildlife Week celebrated from the 2nd to the 8th of October

Wildlife Week is celebrated every year in India from 02 to 08 October. This year the 68th Wildlife Week has been celebrated. Due to the fear of extinction of wildlife in the future, 'Wildlife Day' was first celebrated in India on 7th July 1955.

It was also decided that every year from 2nd October, Wildlife Week would be celebrated for a whole week. Wildlife Week is being celebrated since 1956. The purpose of this campaign is that we should always provide complete protection to every wildlife, animal, bird, and plant.

For this, the central government has also declared some areas as sanctuaries or national parks. The government decided to ban the hunting of all wild animals and birds etc. under the Act. A provision of punishment has also been made for violating the ban imposed by the government.

According to nature, humans, the environment, and wildlife are related to each other in some way or the other. To keep the human body and mind healthy, and to get pure energy, it is very important to keep the environment clean.

Human life is possible only from the environment and if the environment is to be kept clean, then it is necessary to protect them.

Wildlife Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness and promote the conservation of India's rich and diverse wildlife. It is celebrated from the 2nd to the 8th of October every year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was a great admirer of nature and animals.

The origin of Wildlife Week dates back to 1952 when the Indian Board of Wildlife was established by the Government of India to advise on matters related to wildlife protection and management. The board decided to observe a Wildlife Day every year, which was later extended to a week-long celebration in 1957.

During Wildlife Week, various activities and programs are organized across the country by government agencies, NGOs, schools, colleges, zoos, wildlife parks, and sanctuaries. These include workshops, seminars, exhibitions, competitions, quizzes, rallies, nature walks, film screenings, bird watching, etc. The main objective of these events is to educate and sensitize people about the importance of wildlife and its role in maintaining ecological balance and human well-being.

Wildlife Week also provides an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the efforts of individuals and organizations who have contributed to wildlife conservation in India. Some of the notable awards given during this week are the Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Conservation Award, the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar, the Prani Mitra Award, and the Vanya Prani Mitra Award.

Wildlife Week is a celebration of India's natural heritage and a reminder of our responsibility to protect it for ourselves and future generations. By participating in Wildlife Week, we can show our respect and gratitude to the wildlife that enriches our lives and our planet.
