National Statistics Day celebrated on 29th June


 In recognition of the remarkable contributions made by (late) Professor Prashant Chandra
Mahalanobis in the field of statistics and economic planning, the Government of India has been celebrating his birth anniversary, 29 June, as "Statistics Day" every year since 2007.

 This year's theme: Aligning the State Indicator Framework with the National Indicator Framework for Monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals.

 He was one of the members of the first Planning Commission of India and established the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) in the year 1931. World Statistics Day, which is a day designated by the United Nations, is observed on 20 October.

 This year the main event of Statistics Day, 2023 was organized at SCOPE Convention Centre, SCOPE Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The chief guest of the event was Rao Inderjit Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MOSPI).

 International Day of the Tropics 2023: 29 June

 International Day of the Tropics is observed globally on 29 June. International Day of the Tropics celebrates the extraordinary diversity of tropical regions while highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities of tropical countries.

 The inaugural Tropical Report was launched on 29 June 2014 as the culmination of a collaboration between twelve leading tropical research institutions. The United Nations General Assembly adopted in 2016 under resolution A/RES/70/267.
