Renowned painter KM Vasudevan Namboothiri passed away at a private hospital in Kerala
Born in Ponnani, Kerala in 1925, Namboothiri entered the world of painting and sculpture after being influenced by the idols of a temple near his home as a child. A disciple of renowned artist KCS Panicker, he also drew inspiration from leading painters such as Debi Prasad Roy Choudhury and S. Dhanapal.
During his several decades-long career from 1960–2010, Namboothiri illustrated many popular characters for literary publications in the state. Gyanpith awardees did exclusive sketches for luminaries of Malayalam literature like MT Vasudevan Nair, Thakazhi Sivasankar Pillai and SK Pottakkad, and luminaries like Vaikom Muhammad Basheer.
His famous work was 'Randamoozham' based on the epic Mahabharata. He was also awarded the Raja Ravi Varma Award of the Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Art Director.
