NITI Aayog released 'Export Preparedness Index 2022' in New Delhi


 NITI Aayog released the third edition of the report titled 'Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2022' for the States/UTs of India. The report was released by Shri Suman Berry, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog.

 The EPI 2022 report evaluates the performance of states on four pillars - Policy, Business Ecosystem, Export Ecosystem, and Export Performance. The index uses 56 indicators.

 73 percent of the districts in the country have prepared export action plans and more than 99 percent of the districts are covered under the One District One Product scheme. One hundred districts of the country export about 87 percent of the total exports.

Key facts


 Tamil Nadu has been the number 1 state in the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) for 2022 with a score of 80.89. It is followed by Maharashtra with a score of 78.20 and Karnataka with a score of 76.36.

 Gujarat has slipped to the 4th position this time, Tamil Nadu has been in the top 5 list in the large/coastal states categories for the last two years.

 Tamil Nadu has long been a leader in exports in sectors such as automotive, leather, and textiles, and has recently become the No. 1 exporter of electronic goods. It was followed by Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Kerala in the ranking of coastal states.

 Uttarakhand is at the top position among hilly/Himalayan states. It is followed by Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

 Among the landlocked states, Haryana topped the list, followed by Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

 Goa got the first position in the Union Territories and Small States category. It was followed by Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Andaman, Nicobar, and Ladakh.

 The report said that Gujarat's Jamnagar is the country's top district in terms of exports. After this Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Bharuch, Kanchipuram, Ahmedabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and Bangalore were ranked.

 The report also pointed out that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu account for the maximum number of GI products exported. The report states that lack of air connectivity hinders the movement of goods in landlocked states.
