Indian Railways installs Meghdoot machines to make water from air
This technology is recognized by the United Nations. Meghdoot is an Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG) device that uses innovative technology to convert water vapor into fresh and clean drinking water.
It starts making water within a few hours of switching it on and produces 1000 liters of water a day. This technique is successful in conditions ranging from 18 to 45 degree Celsius temperature and 25 to 100 percent humidity. It can be used as an instant solution for potable water.
The company has previously collaborated with CSIR and Indian Institute of Chemical Technology Hyderabad for production of water. Railways will get license fee of Rs 25.5 lakh annually for kiosks in six station premises. Water kiosks will be set up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and five each in Dadar, four in Thane, one each in Kurla, Ghatkopar and Vikhroli.
From the water kiosk, railway passengers can fill their bottle of 300 ml by paying Rs 5, 500 ml by paying Rs 8 and one liter by paying Rs 12. Passengers including a bottle will have to pay Rs 7 for 300 ml, Rs 12 for 500 ml and Rs 15 for a litre.
