Lt Gen MU Nair takes over as National Cyber Security Coordinator

The government has named Lieutenant General MU Nair as the newly appointed National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC). Lt Gen Nair, who took over as the 28th Signal Officer-in-Chief in July 2022, has a wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of cyber warfare, signals intelligence and communications and information technology.

Prior to taking over as NCSC, Lt Gen Nair held the position of Commandant, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering. Lt Gen Nair has now become the third person to hold the post of cyber security chief after Lt Gen Pant and the inaugural Chief Gulshan Rai.

The National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC), functioning under the National Security Council Secretariat, plays a key role in coordination with central level agencies on matters of national and critical importance relating to cyber security.

One of its key responsibilities is monitoring communication metadata, which provides valuable inputs to law enforcement agencies to investigate potential cybercrime cases.
