Notably, India has made remarkable progress in the Global Innovation Index rankings for the first time and has made it to the top 40. In this, Switzerland is on top for the 12th year in a row.

India's neighbors
India's neighboring countries are China 11th, Sri Lanka 85th, Pakistan 87th, Bangladesh 102nd, Nepal 111th and Myanmar 116th. Apart from this, Japan is ranked 13th, Canada 15th, Australia 25th, UAE 31st, Malaysia 36th, Saudi Arabia 51st among other major countries.
Notably, India has improved it by 41 places since 2015, when it was ranked 81. This improvement is being seen due to the conducive environment for startups and emphasis on research.
Global Innovation Index (GII)
It is supported by WIPO and Portulans Institute and its corporate partner. It is published with the support of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Confederation of Brazilian National Industry (CNI), Ecopetrol (Colombia) and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).
