India has secured the 49th position among 64 economies in the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR) for the year 2023, as reported by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). This comprehensive assessment sheds light on how nations are navigating the digital landscape, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).

The United States claimed the top spot in this year's ranking, earning the title of a "digital nation." Following closely, the Netherlands secured the second position, Singapore the third, Denmark the fourth, and Switzerland the fifth.
The WDCR, produced by the IMD World Competitiveness Centre, serves as a crucial measure of the ability and readiness of businesses, governments, and broader society to adopt and explore digital technologies. These technologies are seen as key drivers for economic transformation in the contemporary landscape.
In the Asia-Pacific region, India stands at the 12th position among 14 countries. On a global scale, among 27 countries with a population exceeding 20 million, India ranks 18th. In the technology sector specifically, India holds the 50th position, facing challenges in areas such as enforcing contracts, wireless broadband, and internet users.
The IMD study highlights India's significant progress in terms of cybersecurity knowledge. However, it points out areas where the country lags, particularly in technology and future preparedness.
