India and the United States launched 'Operation Broader Sword'
India and the United States conducted 'Operation Broader Sword' in June 2023. It was a multi-agency operation aimed at preventing illegal shipments of pharmaceuticals, devices, and precursor chemicals through the International Mail System (IMS).
The operation focused on packages entering the United States from India through the New York (JFK International Airport) and Chicago (ORD International Airport) International Mail Facilities (IMF).
During the operation, investigators examined more than 1,500 shipments originating in India, taking action on nearly 500 products, including illegal drugs designed to treat serious diseases. Opioids and other controlled substances were found in several shipments.
Under Operation Broader Sword, India's Revenue Retail Investigation (DRI) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Land and Border Protection (CBP), Homeland Security Investigation (HSI), Drug Export and Production (DEA)), and the United States Postal Investigation Service (USPIS).
