UP government started 'Operation Conviction' against criminals

The Uttar Pradesh Police has recently launched a comprehensive program called 'Operation Conviction' to combat criminals and organized crime in the state. Under this, work will be done especially in heinous crimes like rape, murder, cow slaughter, religious conversion, and cases registered under POCSO Act.

This strategic initiative is aimed at speeding up the process of conviction, a speedy conviction within 30 days, by ensuring immediate arrests, robust evidence collection, careful investigation, and effective representation in courts.

Since 2017, the state government is implementing the policy of zero tolerance towards mafias and criminal elements. Based on this approach, the government has launched 'Operation Conviction' to identify and prioritize 20 cases in each district.

Under this, the district police chiefs will cooperate with the district judges in their respective jurisdictions. Each police commissioner's office and district police chief's office will set up a monitoring cell to monitor the daily progress of cases identified under 'Operation Conviction'.

In addition, the Commissioner of Police and the District Police Chief will coordinate with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to expedite laboratory reports important for the investigation process.

A web portal is currently being developed to facilitate weekly reviews of identified cases. The portal will enable senior police officers at the Directorate General of Police (DGP) office in the state capital to closely monitor the progress of these cases.
