MIT tops QS World University Rankings 2024 for 12th consecutive year
The 20th edition of Quacquarelli Symonds' QS World University Rankings 2024 has been released, this year the methodology for the ranking has been updated, adding new metrics such as sustainability, employability outcomes, and international research networks.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has retained its position at the top of the ranking for the 12th consecutive year. In a notable change in the rankings, the University of Oxford has overtaken Stanford University to take third place.
The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2004, has become the world's most popular source of comparative data about university performance.
Asia
The only Asian university in the top 10 is the National University of Singapore (NUS), which moved up three places from last year's ranking to 8th this year. Apart from this, China's Peking University and Tsinghua University are ranked 17th and 25th respectively in Asia.
With 45 universities ranking this year, India is the seventh most represented country globally and third in Asia after Japan (52 universities) and China (Mainland) (71 universities).
