India becomes the largest producer and second largest exporter of sugar in the world

 India has become the largest producer and consumer of sugar and the second largest exporter in the world. During the sugar season (October-September) 2021-22 in the country, more than 5,000 lakh metric tons of sugarcanes has been produced, out of which about 3574 metric tons of sugarcanes has been processed by sugar mills to produce about 394 lakh metric tons of sugar (sucrose).

 Of this, 35 lakh metric tons of sugar was used to prepare ethanol and 359 lakh metric tons of sugar was produced by sugar mills. Also, India has now emerged as the largest producer and consumer of sugar in the world and the second largest exporter of sugar in the world.

 The ministry said that with supportive international prices and central government policies, the Indian sugar industry has achieved this feat. Due to this, foreign exchange of about 40 thousand crore rupees has been earned.
