World Tourism Day celebrated on 27 September

0
World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on 27 September. The theme of Tourism Day 2022 is 'Rethinking Tourism'. The United Nations World Tourism Organization has handed over the hosting of World Tourism Day, 2022 to Indonesia.

It was started by the United Nations in the year 1980. The purpose of celebrating World Tourism Day is to make people around the world aware about tourism.

The reason behind celebrating this day on the date of 27 September is that on this day in the year 1970, the statutes of the United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) were adopted. Five years after that, UNWTO was established in the year 1975 and five years after that World Tourism Day started. In 1997, at its fifth session in Istanbul, Turkey, the UNWTO decided that one country would host World Tourism Day every year.
