On September 21, 2022, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has launched an e- learning platform 'Bharat Vidya' for Oriental and South Asian Studies in Pune. It is a first of its kind online platform, which will offer both free and paid courses covering various aspects of Indology related to Art, Architecture, Philosophy, Language and Science. Bharat Vidya has been developed by Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (Pune).

Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (Pune) was established on 6th July, 1917 in memory of the works of Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar. Bhandarkar was a pioneer of scientific Orientology in India. Orientology is the study of ancient indigenous knowledge and of Orient knowledge.
