The Central Government will set up a 'PARAKH' regulator for the assessment of students

The Central Government is planning to set up a National Regulatory PARAKH to create a benchmark framework for assessment of students at the secondary and higher secondary levels.

The full form of PARAKH is Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development. PARAKH is also a part of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

PARAKH

It is a proposed regulator that will act as a constituent unit of NCERT and will also be entrusted with conducting periodic learning outcome tests like National Achievement Survey (NAS) and State Achievement Survey. It will include leading assessment experts with a deep understanding of the education system in India and internationally.

It will eventually become the national single-window source for all assessment-related information and expertise to support assessment of learning in all forms, both at the national level and where applicable internationally.

Objective

1. To lay down norms, standards and guidelines for student evaluation and assessment for all recognized school boards in India,

2. It will encourage school boards to change their assessment patterns to meet the skill requirements of the 21st century,

3. This will bring about uniformity among the state and central boards which currently follow different standards of evaluation, leading to wide disparities in marks.
