Odisha becomes first state to release encyclopedia of tribes

 The 'Encyclopedia of Tribes in Odisha' has been released by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on September 26, 2022. With this, it has become the first state in the country to do so.

 It is published by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI) and Odisha State Tribal Museum. Its main objective is to protect the cultural identity of these communities from disintegration and to provide relevant and useful information on various aspects of their life, culture and development.

Encyclopedia of Tribes in Odisha

 It is a 3800-page encyclopedia containing 418 research articles. It is released in five edited volumes. It contains a compilation of traditions and cultures of all the 62 tribal communities living in Odisha. It documents their age-old and unique traditions.

 This research article is based on 62 tribes including 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of the state. Apart from this, the articles of other research scholars etc. have also been included in this.
