In Britain, Indian-origin Home Secretary Suella Braverman was nominated for the Queen Elizabeth II Woman of the Year award at a ceremony. This is the first ever award in this category.

Braverman, 42, who was inducted into British Prime Minister Liz Truss's cabinet this month, said it was an honor to take on a new role at the Asian Achievers Awards 2022, dedicated to the late Queen. Braverman, daughter of Tamil- origin Uma and Goa-born Christie Fernandes, sent a recorded message to the ceremony, where her parents received the award on her behalf.

The award reflects the achievements of individuals from the South Asian community in the UK through public nominations. Other Indian-origin winners in various categories include broadcaster Naga Munchetti from the media world, Namit Malhotra in the arts and culture category, among others.
