Dr. Rajiv Bahl appointed as Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research

 Dr. Rajiv Bahl has been appointed as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary, Department of Health Research for a period of three years.

 Dr. Rajeev Bahl is currently working as the head of the Maternity, Newborn and Adolescent Health- cum-Neonatal Unit under the 'World Health Organization' in Geneva. Earlier, Dr. Balram Bhargava was working as Director General of ICMR and Secretary, Department of Health Research, whose tenure ended in July.

 Dr. Rajeev Bahl is a Pediatrician and has also studied Public Health. He joined the 'World Health Organization' in the year 2003. Earlier he has worked as a Senior Researcher at the 'Advanced Center for Diarrheal Disease
Research' at the 'All India Instituteof Medical Sciences' (AIIMS-Delhi).

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

 ICMR is India's apex body for the creation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research. It was established in the year 1911 as the Indian Research Fund Association (IRFA) and in the year 1949 its name was changed to ICMR. It is funded by the Government of India through the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
