Cabinet Committee on Security Approves Tejas Mark-2 Project

Recently the Cabinet Committee on Security has approved Tejas 2.0 Mega Project. Under this, a more capable and powerful version of Tejas will be made.

Under the Tejas 2.0 mega project, a 5th generation fighter jet will be made. The government will spend Rs 6500 crore to prepare the new version of Tejas, the government had earlier released a fund of 2.5 thousand crores.

Apart from this, a project worth Rs 15,000 crore has been approved for fighter aircraft with stealth technology. A more powerful engine will be installed in the new version of Tejas, which will have more fighting capability than before.

Tejas Mark-II will be capable of carrying a payload of 4.5 tonnes, whereas earlier Tejas Mark-I had a maximum payload capacity of 3.5 tonnes.

The new fighter will also be equipped with indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. Stealth technology will also be used in Tejas 2.0. With stealth technology, the aircraft does not come under radar, that is, its presence is minimal. The Indian Air Force has so far inducted around 30 of the 123 Tejas jets previously ordered from Hindustan Aeronautics.

Tejas Aircraft

The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program was started by the Government of India in the year 1984, after which the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) was established by the government to manage the LCA program. It will replace the older MiG 21 fighter jets.

The LCA has been designed by the 'Aeronautical Development Agency' operating under the 'Department of Defense Research and Development'. It is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a public sector company.
