World famous Shravani fair started in Deoghar, Jharkhand
Shravani Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the eastern region of the country, was inaugurated on 3 July 2023 in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand. State Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh inaugurated the fair at Kanwariapath in Dumma, bordering Bihar.
Usually, the fair is held for a month during the month of 'Shravan', as per the Saka calendar. This year this fair will be organized continuously for two months from 3rd July to 31st August. This is the first time after 19 years that there will be eight Mondays during Shravani Mela.
During the month of Shravan, devotees from India and abroad come to Deoghar and offer prayers at Baba Baidyanath Dham temple. After taking a holy dip in the Ganges at Sultanganj in Bihar, the Kanwarias begin their 105-km walk to Deoghar.
The yatra ends with the pilgrims offering holy water to the 'Shivalingam' at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple. Jharkhand and Bihar - working in coordination to make this event a success.
