IIT Delhi campus to be set up in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the prestigious Qasr Al Watan Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
An important MoU was signed in the education sector between India and the United Arab Emirates. As part of the 'IIT Go Global' campaign, IITs in UAE were announced in August 2022. An agreement was reached between the Ministry of Education of India, the Department of Education and Knowledge of Abu Dhabi, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi to open the Delhi campus.
Apart from this, IIT Delhi has plans to set up campuses in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. IIT Delhi is the second IIT after IIT Madras to announce setting up an offshore campus. Master's courses will be offered in this center from January next year, while bachelor's degree programs will be offered from September
2024.
Other Agreements
Two important MoUs were signed in the banking sector between India and the United Arab Emirates. Under this, Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and Khaled Mohammed Balma, Governor of the Central Bank of UAE, launched India's instant payment system - UPI as part of UAE's instant payment platform to promote economic cooperation and seamless cross-border transactions. Includes linking and linking of Indian RuPay Card Switch and UAE Card Switch.
The second agreement focuses on promoting the use of local currencies, particularly the Indian rupee and the UAE dirham, for cross-border transactions.
