External Affairs Minister Dr. S
Jaishankar is on a four-day official
visit to Tanzania commencing on
5 July 2023. India is building six
projects in Zanzibar, which will
provide drinking water to one
million people.
One of those projects, the Kiduthani
project was visited by Dr. S.
Jaishankar. This project will provide
drinking water to 30,000
households in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
During Prime Minister Narendra
Modi's visit to Tanzania in July 2016,
India and Tanzania signed an
agreement for a USD 92 million LoC
to rehabilitate and improve the
water supply system in Zanzibar.
Tanzania tour
Dr. Jaishankar co-chaired the 10th
India-Tanzania Joint Commission
Meeting with the top Tanzanian
leadership and Foreign Minister in
Dar-es-Salaam. An agreement was
signed during the visit to set up an
IIT campus in Tanzania.
Apart from this, Dr. Jaishankar also
visited Stone Town in Zanzibar. Shri
Jaishankar also unveiled a statue of
Swami Vivekananda in Dar-es-Salaam.
In addition, India had earlier this
year announced the setting up of
the first overseas campus of India's
National Forensic Science
University (NFSU) in Africa in Jinja,
Uganda.
