India won the Asian Kabaddi Championship-2023 by defeating Iran
India defeated Iran 42-32 on 30 June 2023 in the final of the Asian Kabaddi Competition 2023 held at the Okdang Cultural Center of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology in Busan, South Korea. This is India's 8th title out of 9 events of the Asian Kabaddi Championship.
India won all five matches in the league fixtures and topped the medal table. Apart from this, Chinese Taipei and Japan finished third and fourth.
India's captain Pawan Sehrawat led the Super-10s from the front. Successful efforts by Pawan Sehrawat and Aslam Inamdar made Iran collapse.
Earlier in the day, India beat Hong Kong 64-20 in the semi-finals. India's biggest win was 76-13 over South Korea in league matches.
The first edition was held in Kolkata in the year 1980 with the winner being the host nation. The Asian Kabaddi Championship returns after a long gap of six years since the last edition was held in Tehran in 2017. India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong participated in the competition.
