Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh launched the 'Jagananna Amma Vodi' scheme
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy released financial assistance of ₹6,392.94 crore under the Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme on 28 June 2023 at Kurupam in Parvathipuram Manyam district. The state government is providing financial assistance under this program for the fourth consecutive year.
The objective of the scheme is to provide an amount of Rs 15,000 to mothers of students from classes I to XII, directly into their bank accounts, as financial assistance to help them meet their educational expenses.
The scheme is open to all families living below the poverty line, the total monthly income of the family should be limited to 10,000 in rural areas and 12,000 in urban areas. The property owned by the family should be less than 1,000 square feet.
The state government has made 75% attendance mandatory to avail benefits under Jagananna Amma Vodi to reduce the dropout rate in schools.
'Jagananna Amma Vodi'
The primary goal of Amma Vodi is to improve school access and retention, promote equity for better learning outcomes and foster the holistic development of children by providing a strong educational foundation.
Additionally, the program aims to increase the overall gross enrollment ratio in primary and secondary education and have a positive impact on higher education.
The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of Andhra Pradesh for primary education in the year 2018 was as low as 84.48 as compared to the national average of 99.21. Then Andhra Pradesh was at the bottom among 29 states. In the last 4 years, the state has seen a significant increase in GER from 84.48 to 100.8.
