34th International Biology Olympiad held in UAE
India topped the medal tally on the basis of gold medals won per student in the 34th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2023 held at Al Ain, United Arab Emirates from 3rd July to 11th July 2023. This is the first time that India has won in IBO With a golden performance, they have topped the medal tally.
This year's IBO saw the participation of 293 students from 76 countries. Singapore was the only other country to achieve four gold medals. Altogether 29 gold medals were awarded.
Earlier, India has topped the medal tally in Astronomy and Astrophysics (in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2021), Physics (in 2018) and Junior Science (2014, 2019, 2021 2022).
This is the second World Olympiad hosted by the UAE, as the UAE hosted the Junior Science Olympiad in December 2021. The last Olympiad was held in Armenia in 2022, while in the year 2024 this event will be held in Kazakhstan.
