President Draupadi Murmu Inaugurates Super Computer PARAM KAMRUP at IIT Guwahati
On October 13, 2022, President Draupadi Murmu has inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT Guwahati). She virtually inaugurated these projects.
These include the inauguration of a supercomputer facility 'PARAM KAMRUP' under the National Supercomputing Mission and a laboratory for the design and development of high-powered microwave components at IIT Guwahati.
National Supercomputing Mission
The National Supercomputing Mission was announced in March 2015 at an estimated cost of Rs 4,500 crore for a period of seven years (2015-2022).
The mission envisages empowering national educational institutions and R&D institutions across the country by setting up a vast supercomputing grid through over 70 high performance supercomputers.
This mission supports the government's 'Digital India' and 'Make in India' vision. The mission is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology through 'Center for Development of Advanced Computing' (C-DAC) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
