India ranked 123rd in Inequality Index

India has improved six places to 123rd position in the latest Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index (CRII) released on October 11, 2022.

However, India remains among the worst performing countries in terms of spending in the health sector. This index is prepared by Oxfam International and Development Finance International (DFI).

CRII-2022 reviews government policies and actions in 161 countries to reduce inequality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Norway topped the list, followed by Germany and Australia.

To prepare this index, Oxfam International and Development Finance International review government policies and actions taken in three areas that have proven their effectiveness in reducing inequality. Three areas are taken into account to prepare the index, which include public services (health, education and social security), taxes and employee rights.
