Delhi Government Launches Anti-Dust Campaign
Initiating this campaign, the Environment Minister said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced the Winter Action Plan. The meeting of the action plan of the first phase was held at the Delhi Secretariat and a war room has also been established to oversee the plan.
Under this anti-dust campaign, all the 14 anti-dust norms have to be followed for all types of
construction sites. Under the anti-dust campaign, 586 teams have been specially formed for monitoring and compliance with anti- dust norms.
Under the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi, it will be mandatory for all construction sites with an area of more than 500 square meters to be registered on the portal.
Delhi Government Launches Anti-Dust Campaign
The Delhi government has launched an anti-dust campaign from October 7 to 29 to control dust emissions from construction sites and thereby combat rising air pollution in the city. The campaign is part of the winter action plan announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier this month.
Under the campaign, 586 teams comprising officials from 13 departments have been deployed across the city to monitor and enforce the anti-dust norms at construction sites. These teams will operate round the clock and report any violations to the Delhi Environment Department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
The anti-dust norms include building tin walls around construction sites, installing anti-smog guns, covering construction or demolition work with tents or nets, cleaning vehicles carrying construction materials, sprinkling water on roads and open areas, and using mechanical road sweeping machines.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the campaign will provide relief to the people of Delhi from dust pollution, which is a major contributor to air quality deterioration in the summer season. He also said that the campaign will help prepare the city for the upcoming winter season when air pollution reaches alarming levels due to various factors such as stubble burning, vehicular emissions, and meteorological conditions.
The Delhi government has also appealed to the people to cooperate with the campaign and report any violations of anti-dust norms on the Green Delhi App by clicking photographs. The app allows citizens to register complaints related to air pollution and get them resolved by the concerned authorities.
The Delhi government has also implemented the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) system, which prescribes a set of measures to be taken based on the severity of air pollution. The GRAP system has been in force since October 1 and will continue till March 31 next year.
