As the head of the DMA, the CDS is empowered to prioritize inter- service procurement decisions as the permanent chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The CDS has also been empowered to give directions to the three chiefs. However, he does not have the right to command any army.
The rank of CDS is the first among the counterparts, he has the rank of secretary within the DoD (Department of Defense) and his powers will be limited to the revenue budget only.
