Massive Protest

WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

A massive protest broke out at the Chandigarh University campus post-midnight after the videos of around 60 girls taking baths in the hostel were leaked.

Police reached the spot and arrested a girl student who allegedly made those videos and sent them to a boy in Shimla, who shared those on social media.

The accused is a first-year MBA student, police said.

DEMANDING MONEY FROM THE GIRLS

An unverified video of the girl who made the videos and leaked them is also going viral where she confessed her crime.

Some insiders claimed the accused was demanding money from the girls.

SUICIDE CASE

Situation went out of control after a resident allegedly tried to commit suicide at one of the girls' hostels.

However, the university management claimed that no girl had tried to commit suicide rather few girls had 'fainted'.

AUTHORITIES TRYING TO COVERUP

Hundreds of students came out on the campus on Saturday night after talks with the authorities apparently failed.

Several social media posts are doing the rounds claiming that the university authorities were trying to cover up the incident.

As per sources, three residents of the girls' hostel approached the warden and claimed that one of the residents had been making objectionable videos.

"The video of the warden, which is being circulated on the social media, has been made purposely.

The warden was crosschecking the allegations made by the three hostel residents.

We have investigated the matter and no objectionable video was found," said a senior official of the university.

Meanwhile, the students alleged that the videos had been circulated intentionally by the university management to pass on the blame on hostel residents.

"The complaints of the three girls should have been handled in a professional way. The warden is clearly seen threatening the residents," said one of the students.

Many Chandigarh University hostel residents protested and raised slogans against the varsity management for mishandling the situation, in the wee hours of Saturday night.

In various videos, the residents are seen demanding justice and abusing the security personnel on the campus.

The protesters can be seen opening the hostel gates and trying to run outside the campus.

On Sunday morning, heavy police force was deployed outside the campus to avoid any untoward situation.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains urged the protesting students to remain calm.

"It's a very sensitive matter & relates to the dignity of our sisters & daughters. We all including media should be very very cautious, it is also a test of ours now as a society," he tweeted.
