20th May 2024
 20 May each year is officially
recognized by UNESCO as UNESCO
International Day. It has been
announced at the launch event to
be held at UNESCO Headquarters in
Paris on 14 May 2024 to celebrate
UNESCO International Day on 20
May. The theme of which was – We
measure today for a sustainable
tomorrow.
 The theme of World Metrology Day
2024 is- 'We measure today for a
sustainable tomorrow, which
encourages us to explore how
metrology contributes to
improving our lives every day.'
 On 20 May 1875, with the signing of
the Meter Convention, also known
as the Convention du Metre, the
International Bureau of Weights
and Measures (BIPM) was
established.
 The day is jointly supported by the
International Bureau of Weights
and Measures (BIPM) and the
International Organization of Legal
Metrology (OIML).
 May 20 - World Bee Day 2024
 World Bee Day, celebrated on 20
May, marks the birth anniversary
of beekeeping pioneer Anton Jansa.
The theme of World Bee Day 2024 is
“Be Engaged with Youth”.
 The theme, set by the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO),
emphasizes the importance of
involving younger generations in
beekeeping and raising awareness
of the vital role of bees in our
ecosystem.
 World Bee Day was established in
December 2017 following Slovenia's
successful proposal to the United
Nations. The first World Bee Day
was celebrated on May 20, 2018.
 There are over 20,000 different
species of bees globally except
Antarctica. Bees are the only social
insects partially domesticated by
humans.
