This facility is adept at reprocessing both carbide and oxide fuel from fast reactors, distinguishing it as the sole facility of its kind on a global scale. The Fast Reactor Fuel Cycle Facility: A Milestone in Nuclear Recycle

Near Kalpakkam, the Fast Reactor Fuel Cycle Facility (FRFCF) is currently under construction, with an anticipated completion date of December 2027. Implemented by the Nuclear Recycle Board, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), the FRFCF aims to reprocess spent fuel from fast breeder reactors.

Originally budgeted at around Rs 9,600 crore, the FRFCF is a pivotal component of India's nuclear infrastructure. The integrated commissioning of the PFBR is in an advanced stage, with the main vessel filled with 1.15 tonnes of liquid sodium last August, marking a crucial step towards operational readiness.
