Triveni Continental Kings became the champion of the first Global Chess League

Triveni Continental Kings won the first edition by defeating Grand Mumba Masters during the final of the Global Chess League at Le Meridien Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on July 02, 2023. Danish Grandmaster Jonas Bjerre led his team to victory by defeating Javokhir Sindarov at the Upgrade Mumba Masters.

The winner was decided through three stages of tie-break. After two rounds ended in a rapid draw, two more rounds of blitz were played, but still ended in a draw. The eventual champion was decided over a series of sudden-death blitz games, with the deciding result coming in the fourth game.

Triveni Continental Kings – who started the league at the bottom of the table and faced setbacks with the team – finally, won the title.

Bézère, who was one of the most inexperienced players in the tournament and had lost most of his games, led his team to important victories, if necessary.

With this important win, Bjarre not only won the title for his team but also the $500,000 prize money. The total prize money of this tournament was $1 million.
