Parth Salunkhe becomes first Indian male archer to win gold in recurve category at Youth World Championships


 Parth Salunkhe has become the first Indian male archer to win a gold medal in the recurve category at the Youth World Championships to be held in Limerick, Ireland from July 2-9, 2023. Parth Salunkhe, 19, from Satara in Maharashtra defeated Korean player Song In Joon in the final of the under-21 men's recurve event. Top-seeded Salunkhe defeated his seventh-seeded opponent in a hard-fought five-set encounter.

 Earlier in the women's recurve category, Deepika Kumari became the cadet and youth world champion in 2009 and 2011, a feat emulated by her Jharkhand state mate Komalika Bari in 2019 and 2021.

Youth World Championships


 The 24-member Indian team at the World Championships won six gold, one silver and four bronze medals for a total of 11 medals, second only to Korea, which won six gold and four silver medals. In the previous edition of the World Archery Youth Championships to be held in Wroclaw, Poland in 2021, India won 15 medals including eight gold.
