Lakshya Sen won the men's singles title in 'Canada Open Badminton Tournament 2023'
World number 19 Indian player Lakshya Sen has won the men's singles title at the Canada Open Badminton Tournament 2023. He won the title by defeating world number 10 Li Shi Feng of China 21-18, 22-20 in the match held in Calgary, Canada.
The Canada Open is Lakshya's second BWF World Super 500 Tour title after his previous win at the India Open in January 2022. In the semi-finals, he pulled off an impressive win over Japan's Kento Nishimoto, who is currently ranked 11th in the world.
Lakshya Sen was trailing by four points in the second set but eventually won the title by defeating his opponent in straight sets. Commonwealth Games winner Lakshya Sen has won this first title of the World Badminton Association's World Tour after almost a year.
PV Sindhu, on the other hand, crashed out in the women's singles semi-finals after losing to defending champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
