Justice D.Y. Chandrachud to be the 50th Chief Justice of India


 On November 09, 2022, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud will take over as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) for a period of two years. On November 08, 2022 the current Chief Justice U.U. Lalit is retiring. D.Y. Chandrachud is the son of Y. V. Chandrachud, the 16th and longest-serving Chief Justice of India,

 Born on November 11, 1959, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud's full name is Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud. His father Y. V. Chandrachud has also been the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Justice Chandrachud was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India on 13 May 2016. He was the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court from October 31, 2013 till his appointment to the Supreme Court.

 He was a Judge of the Bombay High Court and Director of the Maharashtra Judicial Academy from March 29, 2000 until his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.

 He was Additional Solicitor General of the Government of India from 1998 till his appointment as Judge; he was nominated as Senior Advocate by Bombay High Court in June 1998. He has also worked as an advocate in the Supreme Court of the country and the Bombay High Court.
