Indore became the cleanest city in the country for the sixth time in a row

 On October 01, 2022, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs declared Indore in Madhya Pradesh as the cleanest city in India for the sixth time in a row in the Swachh Survekshan Puraskar 2022. The award was presented to the winning states and cities by President Draupadi Murmu at a function held in New Delhi.

Cities with population more than 1 lakh

 Indore bagged the cleanest city title for the sixth year in a row, while Surat city was adjudged the second cleanest city for the second time in a row. Navi Mumbai secured the third position.

Cities with population less than one lakh

 In the category of cities with population less than one lakh, Panchgani in Maharashtra ranks first, followed by Patan in Chhattisgarh and Karad in Maharashtra.

Cleanest State

 Madhya Pradesh was ranked as the cleanest state, followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra at the second and third positions respectively.

 Cities with population of more than one lakh on the banks of river Ganges

 Haridwar was declared the cleanest Ganga city in the category of population above 1 lakh, followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh. Cities with population less than one lakh on the banks of river Ganges

 Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh was declared the cleanest Ganga city in the category of population below 1 lakh, followed by Kannauj and Garhmukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh.

Cleanest Cantonment Board

 Devlali of Maharashtra was declared the cleanest cantonment board. Cleanest state with less than 100 urban local bodies

 Tripura has topped among the states with less than 100 urban local bodies.

Swachh Survekshan

 Swachh Survekshan is the world's largest urban sanitation and hygiene survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs since 2016.

 The objective of Swachh Survekshan is to promote the spirit of healthy competition among towns and cities so as to improve their service to the citizens and lead towards creating a clean city.

 In the first Swachh Survekshan conducted in 2016, 73 major cities were surveyed whereas in the 7th year of Swachh Survekshan, 73 major cities were surveyed. The edition surveyed 4,355 cities, making it the largest urban sanitation survey in the world.
