Reservation for ST in educational institutions increased from 6% to 10%

A proposal to increase the percentage of reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in education and employment sectors was passed in the Telangana Assembly in April, 2017 and sent to the Centre. However, the central government did not approve the bill and did not even send it for the assent of the President.

The total reservation in Tamil Nadu has crossed the 50 per cent limit to 69 per cent in 1994. 69 percent reservation is in force for the last 28 years. Later, the government decided to increase the reservation for Scheduled Tribes to 10 percent, keeping Muslim reservation aside. After the new system, now the reservation in Telangana has become 54 percent.
