A 9-member task force is formed to monitor exotic cheetahs



 Recently, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has constituted a nine-member task force to monitor cheetahs. The task force has beenconstituted with the objective of reviewing and monitoring the progress and health status of cheetahs. It will monitor the introduction of cheetah to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will facilitate the functioning of the Cheetah Task Force and provide all necessary assistance.

The task force will be applicable for a period of two years.

 Its functions are to maintain quarantine and soft-release enclosures and monitor the security situation of the entire area, following the protocols defined by the Forest and Veterinary authorities, advising Madhya Pradesh Forest Department and NTCA on Cheetah Introduction to India.

Cheetah Restoration (Return) in India

 India welcomed eight African cheetahs from Namibia as part of the Cheetah Reintroduction Project on September 17, 2022. Cheetah return is a part of a prototype or model for the restoration of original cheetah habitats and their biodiversity. Its aim is to check the degradation and rapid loss of biodiversity.
