Shumang Leela Festival begins in Manipur

 Recently the 50th All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival 2021-2022 has started at Iboyama Shumang Leela Shanglen, Imphal. Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh joined Shumang Leela is a traditional for of theater in Manipur and the roles of female actors are performed by all male actors and male characters are performed by female actors.

 Originally the Shumang Leela began as a comedy genre presented to kings and nobles, which eventually evolved into the present form of courtyard-based drama.
