India's first 3D-printed post office to be built in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Bengaluru will soon have India's first post office built with 3D printing technology which will be ready in just a month. The post office building is being constructed by Larsen & Toubro, which is currently the only company in India to use 3D printing technology for construction.
It will cost Rs 25 lakh to set up a 1,000 sq ft building, which will reduce the final cost by 25 per cent. Post offices made with 3D print technology will work like normal post offices.
The Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in association with IIT- Madras has given 'Technology Approval' to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for 3D concrete printing of ground-to-floor structures.
The building was stamped with both vertical reinforcement bars and horizontal distributors using a welded mesh that meets the provisions in the Indian Code and optimizes the cost of construction.
