Eminent economist and former Planning Commission member Abhijit Sen passes away

 Eminent economist and former Planning Commission member Abhijit Sen has passed away. Sen was considered one of the foremost experts in the rural economy.

 In a career spanning more than four years, Abhijeet taught economics at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University. Apart from this, he also held several important government positions including the chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices.

 Let us inform that Abhijit was a member of the Planning Commission from 2004 to 2014 during the Manmohan Singh government.

 Sen was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010. When the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in 2014, it assigned Sen the post of head of a high-level task force to formulate a "long- term food policy". Sen was a staunch supporter of Universal Public Distribution System for wheat and rice.
