Mawmluh Cave of Meghalaya included in 'world's first 100 IUGS geological sites'


  Recently Mawmluh Cave located in the state of Meghalaya has been selected by UNESCO as one of the 'world's first 100 IUGS geological
sites'. The full name of IUGS is 'International Union of Geological Sciences'.

 This Mawmluh cave is in Sohra, Meghalaya, which is known for the Meghalayan era. It is one of the most prominent caves in Meghalaya and is located near Mawmluh, a small village in the state.

 This cave is locally known as Krem Mawmluh. It is believed that it is the fourth longest cave in the Indian subcontinent, with a total length of 7 km. Its entrance is situated at a height of 10 feet above sea level.

 Stalagmite formations and other rock formations can be seen inside this cave. Only a quarter of this cave receives sunlight, while the rest of the cave is immersed in darkness.
